Are PS5 Games expensive? 

Spoiler: yes and no

I became a PS5 user when my kids turned seven and nine, and I wanted to introduce them to the world of top-notch video games.

Why not a desktop PC? Well, for younger kids, the ergonomics simply don’t work. It’s much more convenient for them to sit together on the sofa, about 2-3 meters away from our 55-inch TV. This way, they can easily watch each other play and cheer each other on, or even team up in multiplayer games. Plus, it gives us parents the perfect opportunity to join in on the fun! In contrast, a desktop PC setup is typically comfortable only for a solo gamer.

Another key factor was the reliability of the PS5. When a game is marked as “compatible with PS5,” you can be quite confident that it will run smoothly without significant slowdowns or glitches. This “closed ecosystem” provides a much more predictable and hassle-free gaming experience.

Now, let’s address the common misconception about expensive PS5 games…

Initially, I also thought PS5 games were consistently expensive. This impression came from seeing PlayStation Blu-ray Discs in stores, where many titles easily reach prices of $80 USD (like EA SPORTS FC 24 around March 2024 or Spider-Man 2).

Does it mean all PS5 cost the same money? – No!

And that’s not the whole story! You can often find games priced around $72 USD, and many more around $45 USD. During sales events like Black Friday or Christmas, you can even snag Blu-ray copies for as low as $33 USD! (For example, I got Spider-Man: Miles Morales for that price in December 2023).

If you’re comfortable not having the option to resell physical copies, then building a digital library through the PlayStation Store can lead to significant savings. This opens the door to incredibly low prices! You’ll eventually realize that PS5 games can be quite affordable, with discounts reaching as high as 95%.
